Lhasa undergoes an air Defense alarm test

Free Tibet reported a planned air raid drill last week.
 
According to Tibet Watch, the research partner of Free Tibet, an air defense warning test took place in the capital of Tibet, Lhasa, on 19 September 2020.
 
Other media outlets have recorded the alarm and were able to obtain exclusive footage from within Tibet.
 
The CCP-led Lhasa government made an official announcement ahead of the alarm taking place. Within the statement, they claimed that the test would contribute to “improv[ing] the general public’s conception of the national defence and civil air defence awareness…”.
 
The air defence test was performed against the backdrop of rising border tensions between China and India.
 
Following the recent seventh Tibet Work Forum, chaired by President Xi Jinping, ongoing border tensions with India were among the top priorities. The importance of protecting the Tibetan border as part of maintaining stability for China has also been emphasised.
 
Lhasa’s inside account of the drill triggering fear in the Tibetans. It also added to the concerns among Tibetans over the extreme militarization of Tibet by the CCP government through the construction of military camps, the construction of strategic airports and the success of numerous combat tests.
